Preparing for your Wedding Day

Wow! Congratulations to you on your special day. It is hard to believe that the time is going by so fast and that your wedding is actually getting closer every single day. When you look at that calendar, you realise that there is indeed much to prepare and plan and what seems like so little time left to do it in. Yes, that is typical and true of all weddings, so here are some things that you will need to consider arranging in relation to the planning of your very special and romantic wedding day.

A Wedding Binder

It is wise to start a wedding binder. In there you can add things, such as photos of wedding dresses that you find in magazines and online. You can get samples of napkins and invitations to collect for your binder, add in pictures of venues, bouquets, honeymoon destinations and more.

Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life. From the time you set the date up until you walk down the aisle, there is a great deal of work to do.

Wedding arrangements that need to be made

There are a variety of arrangements that need to be made before the big day. It is important to know what needs to be done, so that you don’t have any last minute problems later.

Venue: The venue is the first thing that you need to arrange. After you set the date, you need to find a venue that has an opening on the date you have chosen. If you have decided to get married at one venue and have the reception at another, making these arrangements can be a bit more complicated.

Food: The food that you will be serving depends on your venue. If you have chosen a venue who will cater your event, you would work with them on the menu. If not, you would need to hire an outside caterer. Getting the menu organized early is very important. If you are offering a variety of choices, you will need to know what they are before you can send out your invitations, so the guests can choose which dish they want.

Cake: Your wedding cake is a very important detail, and you should take your time to choose one. You should go to the bakery and taste different types of cakes so that you can find the best one for you. You will need to choose a wedding cake for your wedding as well. You should decide on that at least eight months before your wedding.

Seating Charts: If you are planning a formal, sit down dinner, you will need to create a seating chart. This can be difficult and stressful, therefore, you should start as soon as you have received all of your RSVP’s.

Invitations and Save the Dates: After you have set the date and it is final, you would need to send out Save the Date cards. These cards will let friends and family know that you have set a date, so they can plan accordingly. You will also need to choose invitations. They will contain all of the necessary wedding details. Choosing the invitations is the easy part. Putting them together and addressing them can be time consuming, therefore, you should set enough time aside.

Transportation: Transportation on your special day is very important. If you are having your wedding and reception at two separate venues, you, your future spouse, and the wedding party will need to get to the venue. Arranging transportation early is important. Many limo rental companies require notice and a deposit.

Music: You have a couple of options when it comes to the music at your wedding. During the ceremony, you can use live music from a piano, harp, or other instrument. You can also use a recording. If you are using live music, it will be necessary to audition and hire a musician. At the reception, you can have either a DJ or a live band. Whichever you choose, it is important to find someone and book them early. If you wait too long, the good ones can be booked already, leaving you very few options.

Photography: It is very important to have photographs of your big day. Most people have hundreds of wedding proofs to go through before they choose the ones that they want to use. It is also a good idea to have a videographer to videotape the wedding. This will give you a chance to relive your big day anytime you want. If you forget to make this arrangement, you won’t have anything to remember your day with.

Flowers and Centrepieces: Flowers and centrepieces are necessary for the wedding. It is important to sit down with a florist and let them know what your vision is. They can help you get the perfect flowers for the wedding venue, the bouquets, and if necessary, the centerpieces for the tables at the reception. If you are planning something other than flowers, for the reception, you should decide what you are going to do early.

Wedding Dress: You should shop for your wedding dress at least nine months before your wedding so there is time to do fittings, alterations, etc. For example, some brides lose weight after they purchase the dress and then need serious alterations that can take quite a bit of time and effort on the part of a good seamstress.

Bride’s and Bridesmaid’s Attire: For the bride, the dress is very important. Some brides take months to find the perfect dress. You would also need to worry about a veil, shoes, bridesmaid’s dresses.

Rings: Before the wedding, the bride and groom should go ring shopping to find the perfect ring. This is not something that should be rushed. These rings are a symbol of your love and you will be wearing them forever.

Tuxedos: If the groom doesn’t own a tuxedo, he would need to purchase one or rent one. The groomsmen would also need tuxedos. This can be done in the last few months leading up to the wedding.

Gifts: It is customary for the bride and groom to give gifts to the bridal party to thank them for being such an important part of their special day. It is important that these gifts are purchased early, so they can be given on the night of the rehearsal dinner.

How Much Time Do You Need To Plan a Wedding

The amount of time that it takes to plan a wedding depends on the couple. Most wedding planners say that ten to twelve months is a reasonable amount of time. If you want to get married sooner, it is possible to plan a wedding in a shorter period of time, however, it will be much more stressful.

Some couples may not have ten to twelve months if they can only get their dream venue on one specific date.

Planning a Wedding Yourself vs Using a Wedding Planner

Whether you plan your wedding yourself or you use a wedding planner depends on you. If you spend most of your time working and spending time with family, you may not have the extra time to plan your wedding. If that is the case, you could greatly benefit from using a wedding planner. The planner will keep you in the loop, asking you questions as they go along, so that the wedding is your vision, not theirs.

If you have the free time, and want everything done your way, you would be better off planning the wedding yourself. Planning the wedding yourself won’t necessarily save you money. Most wedding planners have been in the business for a long time, and know where they can get discounts. What they can save you on your wedding cost can pay their fee and then some.
